Message I think if the first key (for the crank gear) was missing from the crank shaft - like you were hoping - well, I'm pretty positive you didn't really want that to be the problem. For it is that key that is uber critical in allowing the crank gear to be put on in proper alignment so the timing of the engine is correct.

If it were missing, then the crank gear would be able to be put on improperly and more than likely your car would not run properly at all because you could not properly set the timing - possibly and most likely to the point that you would do damage to your valves/pistons.

The second key on the crank is for your crank pulley [the one closest to the end of the crankshaft] and while I suppose if it were missing - the biggest problem would be that the timing mark on the pulley would no longer be relevant. But it wouldn't actually change the timing as it has no bearing on it.

I think you need to check the three things you need for an engine to run in addition to your timing belt being properly set. (So make sure it is, then proceed:)

Compression. Fuel. Spark.

Maybe you've got bad / low fuel pressure. Sounds like you believe everything is firing since the car runs and I expect you'd know if it were idling poorly. So probably all holes are getting spark and have compression. I mean, obviously, if you want to be thorough you check all those things. But low fuel pressure can cause the Z to run like ass. Unfortunately if you are confident on the timing belt setting, and everything up front, it's time to start to check all the other essential things. Eventually you will find the problem.

Sometimes when you're working on the Z (or any car) you put it back together and purely by coincidence another problem occurs - yet you're convinced it's got to be something you were working on - and that's not always 100% true. (Though usually it is...hahaha, I'm just saying...it's possible the problem has nothing to do with your pulley, belt or those things that you seem unsure about)

Years ago my Z ran very weak. Not necessarily exactly like yours is - but it turned out to be the fuel filter. Simple as that. So be patient, find the problem, fix the problem, and then you can enjoy the Z again.
